Our reaction – Council makes solar hot water readiness mandatory for new homes
Yesterday with a 5-4 split our counsel voted to require new builds to be solar hot water ready. While I appreciate the option of an alternative heating source. As a person who is currently building I struggle with counsel’s decision. “Future ready” as some of our counselors have stated makes absolutely no sense, unless it’s mandatory by law or my current heating system blows up (remember I’m a new build) I’m not going to spend the money required to tie in to the new solar heating system. At the risk of dragging this thing on my building costs are already higher than they should be, taking into consideration my DCC charges and the current code requirements with respect to my plumbing/heating system.
