Friday, January 6th, 2012Never fails, as soon as the property assessment values hit our mailbox we all find ways to interpret reasons to support or negate what the BC Assessment Authority has said. “I’d never sell my house for the current assessed value”. If I had a dollar for every time I had heard that I would have retired from Real Estate long ago. The only thing that should concern you about your assessed value is the amount of taxes you are going to be paying to the city. My personal gauge when it comes to determining whether or not I am going to dispute the assessment authorities pricing is 15-20%. Simply put, if the assessed value is within 15-20% of what I deem to be true market value, I don’t get too bent out of shape. Having said that, the lower your assessment is the less taxes you will pay in theory. If you are really concerned or would like a second opinion don’t hesitate to give me a shout.
